The Story Of The
Front Room
The Front Room Restaurant
emerged on the San Francisco's Nob Hill in 1967.
Sarn Davull, famous local restaraunteur, secured locations
throughout the Bay Area including Clement Street, 9th and
Judah, Dewey Street, Alameda and Concord.
In
1972, Steven Rice purchase all of the front room locations.
At the 1500 California Street location, he sold the back of
the restaurant , called "The Back Room" to Larry Ayre,
former manager of the existing Front Room. It was, in turn
changed to a Scottish-style pup and renamed the John
Barleycorn.
The
Laghaei family purchased the California Street location in
1980. After the death of his parents in 1994, Farid Laghaei
took full control of the restaurant, establishing the Front Room as
the city's new hot spot. by introducing the ever-popular
"Beer Nights." serving pitchers at extremely low prices - a
tradition still enjoyed today.
In
January 2001, the adored Farid fell ill, his wife Lori,
took care of him as well as the Front Room. From the time of
the 9-11 tragedy as well as a time of tragedy for the
Laghaei family, Lori kept the front room going and continued
to help her husband until he passed away in July of 2003 at
the age of 32. She continued to keep Farid's legacy alive by
making the front room a great place for family and friends
to meet.
We now
face the end of an era. Ms Luisa Hanson. a restaraunteur,
recently purchased the building at 1550 California Street
and refused to renew the leases for the Front Room and the
John Barleycorn on the approach of our 40th anniversary. We
choose to continue this San Francisco tradition at our new
location, just down the road at 1550 California Street.
Lori Laghaei,
President
Laghaei's Front Room Inc.
